Brother and sister cats (a little over a year old) male no longer covers his poop in the litter box. Is he being lazy or is there a reason?
Any change in behavior warrants an evaluation of your pet’s health to make sure there’s no medical reason for it. Is his poop normal or has it changed in consistency or frequency at all? Cats can be pedantic and don’t like touching sloppy poop.
Some cats stop covering if there’s a change in their environment and they feel the need to mark their territory a bit more – has anything like that happened? Another reason may be a change in litter to one he doesn’t like the feel of. If that’s the case, see how he responds to using the old familiar litter again. If there hasn’t been a change, try a different type and see if he likes it any better.
It’s good to offer cats plenty of litter boxes – usually one for each cat plus one more. If this doesn’t help then it may just be something you have to live with, it’s not easy to re-teach an adult cat to cover their poop. | 12.31.15 @ 03:14
