It's often said that you don’t choose a dog, it chooses you. Regardless of what you think you’re looking for in a pup, the new friend you eventually go home with may not be what you were looking for at all – and yet will be perfect for you. There is a dog out there for everyone, and we have finally found the perfect video to demonstrate that kind of bond.
Meet Walter and Julia. Born deaf, Walter was abandoned at an animal shelter in California when he was just six weeks old. Undeterred by his disability, the feisty pup is filled with boundless energy, and was soon spotted by Julia and her family when he became available for adoption. What makes the pair's bond even more special, is that Julia was born deaf too. In a heartwarming video released by the Pasadena Humane Society, Julia and Walter frolic together, showing that disability is no barrier when it comes to love.
Julia’s mom explained the family’s decision to adopt Walter: "When I first held Julia, since she couldn’t really hear my voice, she would smell my neck… When I first held Walter, he did almost the same exact thing. I remember just looking at him, and I just knew that he was meant to be ours. They’re the same."
Julia has already taught Walter a little sign language, communicating the words, 'sit', 'food' and 'water' to the clever pup. The duo's video has been viewed more than 285,000 times since it was first uploaded to the Pasadena Humane Society's Facebook page.
The last words must go to Julia: "I love Walter. Walter is my best friend."
We hope you enjoy witnessing Julia and Walter’s special bond.
