Hi Alyce, we've done some research on this and will be writing an article soon for the site as we feel this is an important subject. Thank you for the question and bringing this into our thoughts.

The issue is a big one, as moving related issues are one of the biggest contributors to the nearly 8 million animals that end up in shelters each year.

From our research rental properties that allow pets are the norm rather than the exception in most parts of the US. A place to look online is www.apartments.com which allows you to search for apartments that allow cats.

We also recommend contacting your local animal shelter for advice on finding pet friendly rental properties. The staff will be familiar with the local situation.

Also, consider using www.Craigslist.com as you may be able to find private landlords who are fellow pet lovers.

Try getting a letter of recommendation from your veterinarian as this will evidence your responsible pet ownership.

Offering to clean carpets etc on a regular basis further demonstrates your desire to be a good tenant.

We hope that helps a little, perhaps you can update us on things... | 08.17.15 @ 10:43
