How do I get chewing gum out of my dogs fur without cutting her coat with scissors?

Hi there, this has happened to our family cat before. I would recommend working some vegetable oil into the gum (especially if the gum is still soft) with your fingers. The oil helps to break it up into smaller pieces aiding removal. Afterwards use a mild dog shampoo to remove the vegetable oil.
A cautionary note... never use paint thinner, nail polish remover or turpentine to do the job as they are toxic if subsequently licked by your dog and they will absorb through the skin also.
Good Luck!
