Meet Samson, a gorgeous feline in possession of the softest fur imaginable and bags of personality to boot. While the sight of this pretty kitty is enough to cheer up anyone, the fact that he could be New York City's biggest cat may well encourage you to look again – and to keep staring. He's one fierce feline looking to steal your heart.
Measuring an astounding four feet in length, and weighing in at 28 pounds, Samson towers over many small children. His pet parent, Jonathan Zurbel, a social media strategist, DJ, and music producer, claims that the two met quite by chance – and he wouldn't have it any other way.
"He fell from heaven into my arms… Not really, but my brother got him for his ex-girlfriend and when they broke up I took care of him for a few weeks and we became inseparable," Jonathan explained to Mashable.
Taking one look at Samson, you'd be forgiven for worrying for his health – are cats supposed to be quite that big? Let us reassure you, though; Samson is in perfect physical health, and is far from fat.
"I must stress he is VERY healthy and his size is just because he is a perfect specimen… His weight is not because he eats too much!" Jonathan said.
Is Samson New York City's biggest cat? Manhattan veterinarian Dr. Lisa Lippman thinks he could be: "He is by far the biggest cat I've ever heard of, especially in New York City."
Maine Coons are a breed renowned for their size, but they normally weigh in between 15 to 18 pounds. The biggest recorded was 25 pounds., which would make Samson a record breaker if his 28-pound stature is confirmed.
If you're craving a cuddly companion, you could certainly do far worse than a gorgeous Maine Coon like Samson. If you would like to see what the Hulk of felines and his pet parent get up to, follow them on Instagram.
