He may look a little different from other dogs, but he's a total sweetheart and he needs a new home. Meet Oswald, a gorgeous German Shepherd pup with a long and sad story, even though he's just a few months old.
Rescued by the San Diego Department of Animal Services, Oswald was found wandering the streets, suffering from hair loss caused by dry skin and parasites. While those afflictions will heal, rescuers fear that his appearance may put off potential pet parents. Oswald was born with a cleft nasal planum, which means that his nose is split in two. Veterinarians have removed some of the pup's teeth in order to straighten his jaw out, but have revealed that he will always have a split nose.
The pup, who is in possession of the sweetest disposition despite his start in life, is currently residing with a foster family while the German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County tries to find him a forever home.
Director Maria Dales told The Orange County Register about their latest charge: "He's not a wild puppy at all, he's very sweet and gentle. It's hard to say if someone dumped him or if he wandered away.”
One thing is for sure though, Oswald has landed on his paws as Maria and her team are determined to find him a new home. The shelter is currently raising funds for Oswald to receive flea and worming treatment, and to be neutered.
It's a sad fact that Oswald may struggle to find a new home in spite of his nature. Many dogs that don't conform to society's standards are dumped or put up for adoption every year. Oswald may well experience difficulties as he grows up, including a need to have more teeth removed as his jaw grows. He will also need a slow eating bowl to support him at mealtimes. However, this is one pup that knows how to love, and he desperately needs a pet parent who will be as dedicated to him as he will be to them. Could you be Oswald's forever family?
