The Birth of Menswear Dog
Bodhi is a Shiba Inu who lives in New York City with his pet parents, David Fung and Yena Kim. Fung is a graphic designer and Kim a fashion expert, so Bodhi had fashion in his blood!
Bodhi’s foray into fashion began on a whim when Fung reacted to an impulse to see how one of his own outfits would look on the dog. Surprisingly, Bodhi not only allowed Fung to dress him up but he seemed to enjoy it. Both Fung and Kim maintain that Bodhi acts like a human supermodel in a dog’s body.
The couple began the Menswear Dog blog on a whim, but it rapidly gained attention when photos of Bodhi went viral. Two years later, the Menswear Dog blog is still going strong.
Fashion Tips from Menswear Dog
Not only does Bodhi still dress and pose for the blog, but he is also the hairy face of the book, Menswear Dog Presents: The New Classics. The book is geared toward men who have very little fashion sense, and is designed to help them learn the basics of dressing well. Although there are many helpful tips to be found in this book, the so-called “menswear dogma” consists of five simple rules:
- Invest now; save later.
- Classics are timeless for a reason.
- Fit trumps price every time.
- If it doesn’t make you feel good, don’t wear it.
- When in doubt, keep it simple.
Menswear Dog claims that by following these simple rules and implementing the other helpful tips found in this book, even the most fashion-challenged man can learn how to dress well.
To promote the book, Bodhi and his pet parents met with a CNN reporter at Barneys in New York to find out what Menswear Dog would wear on a first date. Fung and Kim quickly picked several outfits for Bodhi to try on, drawing from an assortment of brightly colored blazers, patterned shirts, and bow ties. In one outfit, Bodhi paired a shirt covered in a bowtie pasta print with a bright blazer and hat, showing off his keen eye for detail and love for accessories.
Whether you are looking for fashion advice or simply like the idea of seeing a dog dressed like a man, the Menswear Dog blog is definitely worth checking out. Bodhi the Menswear Dog may not be able to dress himself physically, but one thing is for certain – he wears the clothes, they don’t wear him. There’s a reason the blog is subtitled “the most stylish dog in the world.” If you are interested in picking up the book, may we suggest a pawtographed copy?
