My chihuahua has suddenly started to "reverse sneeze" a lot more often. She's only 4. Should I be concerned?

Alec, a reverse sneeze happens because something is irritating the back of your dog’s nasal cavity. Some possibilities for a sudden increase in reverse sneezing are nasal mites, allergies, or a foreign body up the nose such as a grass seed. It could also be due to infection or inflammation which is causing post nasal drip or even a mass that has grown in that area. Sometimes exposure to more chemicals in the air can be a trigger. It’s important to rule out collapsing trachea as a cause, especially in small breed dogs. Treatment needs to be targeted at the underlying cause and to figure out what that is, you’ll need to take your dog along to your vet for an exam. | 10.28.15 @ 00:21
