Hi Steffanie, this is definitely cause for concern. The ears are obviously bothering your dog a great deal so it's time for a visit to your vet.. Some possible causes include ear mites, bacterial or fungal infections or allergies. Treatment varies depending on the cause. It may be as straightforward as a medicated ear drop or it may involve some further tests or even a change in diet. Apart from the discomfort, the other problem with constant scratching at the ears is it can break a blood vessel in the ear flap which then results in an aural hematoma or blood blister. Depending on size, this may need surgery to resolve it. The sooner you have the ears treated, the better for your dog and the less chance of a hematoma forming. | 11.16.15 @ 01:08
