Far from being over the hill or past their best, the senior dogs of America are a shining testament to the country's love affair with their pets. To showcase the beauty of older animals, photographer Nancy LeVine traveled across the country to capture a variety of senior dogs for her new book, titled Senior Dogs Across America.
Writing on the book's blog, Nancy explains: "My interest in the world of the senior dog began as my own two dogs began to approach the end of their days. This was at a time when I had lived enough years to start imagining my own mortality. I entered a world of grace where bodies that had once expressed their vibrancy were now on a more fragile path."
To create her collection, Nancy scoured towns and cities for some of their oldest and most beautiful residents. The result is a book that dedicates itself to the loyalty shown by these pets throughout their years, and a tribute to the bond between pet and pet parent – one that can never be broken.
As well as highlighting the beautiful stories of senior dogs, Nancy's book also serves the purpose to remind people that older dogs are just as lovable as their puppy counterparts, and that there are hundreds of senior dogs out there just waiting for a wonderful home.
