Sometimes my dog foregoes food and just grazes on grass and throws up. Should I be concerned or is it just a sign of a stomach ache?

Could it be that I need to change her food? It only happens on occasion - maybe once a month or two months.

Meredith, this is quite a common occurrence in the lives of our pet dogs. Nobody really knows for sure why it happens. One theory is that they eat grass because if they were hunting prey, they'd perhaps eat the vegetable matter in the stomach so it's a source of fiber for them. Another is that they eat grass to make themselves throw up. Grass eating is considered by vets to be a normal part of dog behavior and usually not something to be worried about. If your dog shows any other indication that something isn't quite right, then perhaps a check up by your vet is in order but usually there isn't any underlying medical condition. | 10.26.15 @ 00:42
