Bladder stones are accumulations of minerals in an animal’s urinary tract. There are a number of types of stones that are composed of different minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Some stones are associated with infection, some can be dissolved with diet and some need surgical removal.
Symptoms are usually similar to those of a bladder infection – frequent urination, signs of pain on urination, and sometimes blood in the urine. If a stone becomes lodged in the tube leading from the bladder to outside the pet’s body, it blocks the passage of urine so you’ll see your pet strain to urinate frequently and not pass anything. This is extremely serious.
Any signs of straining or pain on urination should be quickly assessed by your vet because bladder stones and bladder inflammation are painful and don’t resolve on their own. | 01.07.16 @ 10:55
