African Grey parrots are best fed predominantly on an appropriate pellet – about 60% of their diet should consist of pellets to make sure they get all the nutrients they need. The balance of their food can be a mix of vegetables including peas, beans, corn, capsicum, pumpkin and sweet potato. Fruit such as stone fruits can be an occasional treat. When it comes to intelligent birds, how you feed is just as important as what you feed. Tie the vegetables to branches with raffia to make a foraging tree, which allows your bird to “pluck” their food as they would in the wild. Natural wood toys can be stuffed with veggies to make your bird work for their meal. This makes mealtimes more satisfying for them because they can better express normal foraging behavior. | 11.04.15 @ 05:38
