That’s a great question Britt. Here are some general suggestions that will help. Any interaction between a pet and a child should be supervised by an adult. Make all interactions positive, that is use things that your pet loves to make the experience with the child fun – treats, balls to play with, even a gentle grooming. Let the pet approach the child (again offer treats to entice them closer if necessary) rather than allow the child to go close to the pet when they’re not used to each other. Always allow the pet an escape area where they can go when they need a break, and teach the child that the pet is to be left alone when in there. Don’t rush this process; animals can take a little while to get used to a new family. | 10.29.15 @ 22:55
