The best food for extremely overweight cats is a prescription weight loss food, rather than using a regular cat food and just feeding less. The reason for this is while you can cut down calories by putting less in your cat’s bowl, you’re also cutting down other nutrients and this can lead to subtle deficiencies that can affect their health. Prescription foods have fewer calories but still the right amount of other nutrients. Your vet will be able to help with choosing a weight loss food.
When it comes to exercise, cats are more difficult to exercise than dogs. Few of them will want to go for a walk with a harness and leash. Some cats will chase laser pointers or feathers on a stick. Other options are to put their dry food allocation into a treat ball; this will make them work for their kibble. If you don’t have other pets that will steal your cat’s food, you can put small meals in different places in your home so they have to walk or even climb to get it. Depending on how busy you are, you can also toss pieces of kibble one at a time for your cat to chase. | 12.09.15 @ 22:15
