Why would a male dog all of a sudden start peeing on things again?

He is about 6 years old. Been potty trained since 6 months old or so. Recently he has been peeing instead of letting us know he needs to go outside.

Sara, there are two possible reasons for a change in urination patterns in dogs. The first is a physical or medical cause such as a bladder infection or other condition that increases the frequency of urination or the amount of urine produced. The second is a behavioral reason, such as anxiety or even the presence of a female dog on heat in the neighborhood. Your first step is a visit to your dog’s vet for a thorough physical exam. They are likely to suggest blood and urine tests at that time, so collect a urine sample and take it with you when you go – this is much easier with a male dog than a female! If all's well with your boy’s health, then they’ll discuss with you any changes in your dog’s environment or other triggers that may be causing his marking behavior, and work towards a solution. | 10.27.15 @ 22:34
